AC Milan/Inter Milan: Populous' project, "The Cathedral", selected as the new San Siro stadium

" FC Inter Milan and AC Milan (Serie A TIM) are delighted to announce that Populous' (architectural firm) project - named 'The Cathedral' - has been selected for their new stadium," said the Italian clubs on 21/12/2021. The project consists of the construction of a new stadium shared by the two teams, accompanied by the urban renewal of the San Siro district in Milan (Lombardy, ITA).

The announcement follows the resolution of public interest taken by the Milanese municipality on 05/11/2021 concerning the area of the current Giuseppe-Meazza Stadium, a prerequisite for obtaining a building permit.

"The district will be pedestrian-only, with over 110,000m2 of green areas (40% of the total square footage). The car park, which represents 27% of the total area in the current scheme, will be moved to a dedicated underground area. Most of the sport and leisure activities - located both indoors and outdoors - will be free-of-charge or affiliated with the City of Milan," continued the two Serie A clubs.
