Bundesliga: Werder Bremen envisage entry of "local proactive investor"

Klaus-Dieter Fischer, the chair of Werder Bremen (Bundesliga), envisage the club getting a "local proactive investor", he said in an interview with German newspaper Bild on 08/08/2014.

"In the long term, we have to face pressure from the competition. We have always had the ambition to do without [an external investor]. Werder Bremen is 100%-owned by the association. But the more that there are clubs such as RB Leipzig, which is wholly owned by an investor (the Austrian energy drink Red Bull), the more that Werder will struggle, eventually, if it does otherwise," said Fischer. "It is important that the investor wants to work with Werder over the long term and strategically. We do not want a flighty investor who is only interested in profit. Ideally, this would a local partner." Bremen were 12th in the Bundesliga in 2013-14.
