Chelsea FC: a turnover of £434.9m (+6.75%) and net loss of £153.4m in 2020-21

Chelsea FC (Premier League) posted a turnover of £434.9m (€506.8m on 30/06/2021) for the financial year 2021 (from 01/07/2020 to 30/06/2021), up 6.75% compared with 2020 (£407.4m/€474.8m), according to the English club on 30/12/2021.

"The Covid-19 pandemic had a severe impact on the club’s ability to generate revenues in the year. Had it not been for the impact of the pandemic on matchday, broadcasting and commercial income, this year would have probably seen the club break the £500m (€582.7m) turnover level for the first time," said Chelsea FC, which posted a net loss of £153.4m (€178.8m) at the end of the 2021 financial year.

"The only revenue stream that has shown a year-on-year increase is broadcasting revenue which has increased from £182.5m (€212.7m) to £273.6m (€318.9m). This increase was driven by the club’s Champions League success but also due to the late finish of the 2019-20 Premier League season in July 2020, amounts were carried forward from the 2019-20 season, as domestic and European broadcasting revenue is recognised at the time the matches are played.
