Padel: a record 96,872 licensees in Spain in 2021, an increase of 22% compared to 2019

The Spanish Federation of Padel (FEP) has closed the year 2021 with a total of 96,872 athlete licenses, "a record in the history of Spanish padel, an increase of 22% compared to the 75,819 licenses registered in 2019, the previous record," announced the body on 03/01/2022.

"The number of national coaches (1,020), national referees (514) and federated clubs (1,525) means that by the end of 2021 the number of licenses will be close to 100,000 (99,931). This consolidates the extraordinary take-off of padel in Spain, which has seen its volume of licenses grow by over 1,383% in the last two decades. By age, half of the licenses registered at the end of last year (49.8) correspond to athletes under 39 years of age. Thus, junior players (under 19 years of age) account for 13.4% of the licenses, the U23 segment (19 to 23 years of age) accounts for 6%, while senior players (24 to 39 years of age) account for 30.5%. The other half (50.2%) of the registrations are for veteran padel players (aged 39 and over)," explained the Federation.
