USA: ESPN acquires rights to broadcast 2014-2018 European Cups from Fox Sports

The American pay-TV group ESPN reached an agreement to sublicense broadcast rights to Fox Sports Media Group on 15/08/2014. The contract covers broadcasting of Champions League and Europa League in the United States for 2014-2018 in English and Spanish.

Fox Sports had acquired the rights to the 2015-2018 Champions League and Europa League for the United States and the Caribbean on 17/12/2013. Fox Sports has broadcast Champions League in the United States and the Caribbean since 2009-10, and Europa League since 2012-13, on its various channels in both English and Spanish. The agreement with ESPN will allow the latter to exclusively broadcast 72 of the 145 matches of the Champions League (playoffs, group stages, and qualifiers) every season in Spanish on ESPN Deportes. This channel will broadcast the final of the Champions League and the European Super Cup for 2015-16 and 2017-18, while FOX Deportes will broadcast the 2014-15 and 2016-17 editions of these two games.
