Premier League: Serbian Dragan Šolak, via Sport Republic, acquires 80% stake in Southampton FC

Sport Republic, a sports and entertainment industry investment company based in London (ENG) and backed by Serbian businessman Dragan Šolak, has completed the acquisition of Southampton FC (Premier League), announced the club on 04/01/2022.

Sport Republic has therefore purchased the 80% stake in the club held by Jisheng Gao. Katharina Liebherr, who had sold the latter to the Chinese investor in August 2017, retains her 20% minority stake. The deal is valued at £100m (€120m) according to British media.

"Over the last two years, together with the shareholders of our club, we have searched for the right partner to take the club forward. Today we have found the perfect solution for our club. Sport Republic are experienced investors, but also experienced within the world of elite professional sports. That combination is very hard to find, and we are thrilled to have reached an agreement that secures our short and long-term future," said Martin Semmens, CEO of Southampton FC.
