England: Wristband to be used as contactless payment device at sports events

Barclaycard, a subsidiary of the British bank Barclays dedicated to credit cards, and Green 4 Solutions, a British company that specialises in customer relations in sports, have partnered to create the bPay Band, a wristband that is in fact a contactless payment device, on 14/08/2014.

Consumers must tap their wristband, linked to a credit card, on one the 300,000 machines available in the United Kingdom to pay for their purchases. This innovation, focused principally on sports venues, will also enable its users to log-in a location via social networks, indicated Barclaycard.

“We can help sports clubs access new data sources to gain valuable insights into their customers’ behaviour by providing an integrated payment and ticketing solution," said Mike Saunders, managing director for digital consumer payments at Barclaycard. "This will help venues looking to understand their customers better, grow loyalty and maximise revenues through a joined-up approach to technology,” he added.

The launch date for the bPay Band was not communicated. A similar product is already used in the Disney…
