AFCON 2021: a $1.85m increase in prize money (+11%), $5m for the winning country

$5m (€4.4m) is the sum that will be paid to the team that wins the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 which began in Yaoundé (CAM) on 09/01/2022, according to CAF following a meeting of its executive committee, in Douala (CAM) on 07/01/2022.

The executive committee decided to increase the total sum of AFCON prize money by $1.85m (€1.63m, or 11%) to $16.85m (€14.83m). "The increase is in line with CAF's commitment to reward merit performance and enhance the status of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, and will be in effect in the upcoming edition," explained the body chaired by CAF president Patrice Motsepe (RSA), two days before the start of the competition.

Increases in prize money and distribution:
⚽️ Winner: $5m/ €4.4m (+$500,000/€440,000).
⚽️ Runner-up: $2.75m /€2.42m (+$250,000/€220,000).
⚽️ Teams eliminated in the semi-finals: $2.2m/€1.93m (+$200,000/€176,000).
⚽️ Teams eliminated in the quarter-finals: $1.175m/€1.035m (+$175,000/€154,000).
