FIFA TMS: Spain and England represent 73% of transfer spending in European Top 5

The Premier League and Liga BBVA represented 73% of the transfer spending in the five major European leagues (Germany, England, Spain, France and Italy) recorded between 01/06/2013 and 12/08/2014, indicated FIFA TMS (Transfer Matching System), FIFA's (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) online international Transfer Matching System on 14/08/2014.

This percentage represents $998m (€751m), on a total of $1.36bn (€1.02bn), in the transfer spending recorded in the European Top 5. The total remains stable compared to the same period in 2013, during which transfers generated $1.35bn.

Transfer spending in Serie A and Ligue 1 clubs between 01/06 and 12/08/2014 (€160m) decreased by 64% compared to 2013 (€451m). The slowdown in Ligue 1 is explained by the 75% decrease of both Paris Saint-German's and AS Monaco's transfer spending on 12/08/2014 (€55m) compared to 2013 (€221m).
