Spain/Primera Iberdrola: the 16 clubs agree on the statutes for a new professional women's league

The 16 clubs of the Primera Iberdrola (see list below) have reached an agreement on the statutes for a new Spanish women's professional football league, according to the sports daily Mundo Deportivo and confirmed by other Spanish media on 09/01/2022. The first Spanish professional women's football league is expected to be organised in 2022-23.

The statutes of the women's league must be ratified by the executive committee of the Spanish High Council for Sports (CSD). "The most urgent decisions to be taken next for this body, which will be independent and will manage all its assets autonomously and within the framework of a coordination agreement with the Spanish Federation (RFEF), will be the election of a president and the constitution of its board of directors," explained the sports daily AS.

The CSD wants a woman to chair the new organisation. The Consejo Superior de Deportes will oversee the women's league for three years and provide it with €31m over the period: €15m (€5m per year) for operations and €16m for infrastructure improvements.
