KPMG: revenues of champions in 2020-21 still below pre-pandemic levels in Europe

"With total revenues of most clubs still below their pre-pandemic levels, most champions recorded massive losses for the financial year which ended in May/June 2021. The most common trend seen was that operating revenues - hit hard by almost complete loss in matchday income, but mitigated by stable or increasing broadcasting and commercial revenues - could not make up for the generally high staff cost and decreasing player trading income," states "The European Champions Report 2022" published by KPMG Football Benchmark, the business intelligence platform of the international network of audit and advisory firms, on 12/01/2022.

This 2022 report is the seventh edition of a study that compares the operating revenues - i.e. excluding transfers, in particular - of the champions of the top eight European leagues: Manchester City FC (Premier League), FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga), Club Atlético de Madrid (LaLiga Santander), FC Inter Milan (Serie A TIM), LOSC Lille (Ligue 1 Uber Eats), AFC Ajax (Eredivisie), Sporting Clube de Portugal (Liga Portugal Bwin) and Besiktas JK (Süper Lig).
