Nigeria: Aminu Maigari reinstated as president of federation; congress scheduled on 26/08/2014

Aminu Maigari was reinstated in his position of president of the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation), the federation announced on 18/08/2014.

Aminu Maigari was sacked by the federation's executive committee on 25/07/2014. Eight of the 13 members of the executive committee voted for his ouster for "financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration".

According to several Nigerian medias, his reinstatement came after Markus Kattner, the deputy general secretary of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), sent a letter to the NFF, on 04/08/2014, stating that Aminu Maigari's dismissal process by the executive committee on 25/07/2014 was invalid. It demanded that "Aminu Maigari preside over the congress of the Nigerian federation, on 26/08/2014", during which a new president will be elected.

  • Maigari was arrested on 04/07/2014 after having failed to solve a conflict, during the 2014 World Cup (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) with the players regarding the payment of their bonuses, on 04/07/2014.
