Capacities for the Australian Open 2022 (17-30/01/2022) will be limited to 50% due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in Melbourne (Victoria, AUS), announced the Australian authorities on 13/01/2022. Tickets purchased prior to this announcement will remain valid, even if the number of tickets sold for a match exceeds this limit.

Martin Pakula, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events of the Parliament of Victoria, and Craig Tiley, director of the Australian Open, initially confirmed that the stadiums hosting the tournament would be full during a press conference on 20/11/2021. The Australian authorities also announced the mandatory vaccination of participating players the same day.

The state of Victoria recorded a record 39,000 infections on Thursday 13/01/2022. The Southeast Australian state now has more than 220,000 reported cases and nearly 1,000 hospitalised patients.
