Covid/tennis: Novak Djokovic deported from Australia after losing his appeal for a visa

The Federal Court of Australia has unanimously confirmed the Minister for Immigration's decision to cancel Novak Djokovic's visa on 16/01/2022. The Serbian tennis player, deported from Australia, will not participate in the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament (17-30/01/2022), where he is the defending champion, has already won nine times and for which he could have won a record 21st major tournament.

"This cancellation decision was made on health, safety and good order grounds, on the basis that it was in the public interest to do so. I welcome the decision to keep our borders strong and keep Australians safe. Australians have made many sacrifices during this pandemic, and they rightly expect the result of those sacrifices to be protected," said Scott Morrison,  Prime Minister of Australia, the same day.
