France/stadiums: Senate votes for abandonment of capacity limits, each case to be assessed locally

The bill "reinforcing health crisis management tools" definitively adopted by the French National Assembly on 16/01/2022 did not retain the amendment voted by the Senate on 11/01/2022 concerning the limited access to sports venues as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Adding to the thresholds of 2,000 and 5,000 people (respectively for indoor venues and stadiums) half of the remaining capacity was the concept presented by Pierre-Antoine Levi, a centrist senator from Tarn et Garonne (FRA), and adopted by the Senate.

"The law, when it went back to the National Assembly, kept what had been proposed by the government following the amendment tabled by Sacha Houlié (La République En Marche ! or LREM, deputy for Vienne), namely the possibility of going beyond 2,000 people in indoor facilities and 5,000 people in open facilities that can be accommodated in sports venues," explained Roxana Maracineanu, French Minister Delegate in charge of Sport, on the sidelines of the presentation of Olympic and Paralympic Week at the headquarters of Paris 2024, in Saint-Denis (Paris, FRA), on 17/01/2022…
