England: Premier League generated £442m in tourism-related spending in 2019-20 (EY)

The Premier League and its clubs generated €531m (£442m) in tourism-related spending in 2019-20, according to the UK office of the audit and consultancy firm EY (Ernst & Young), in its report entitled "Premier League: Economic and Social Impact" published by the League on 17/01/2022 (document available to download).

This expenditure was generated in particular by 528,000 international visitors were attracted to the UK by Premier League football, according to EY. A further £16m (€19.2m) was spent by 61,000 domestic fans at away games, bringing the total amount spent by fans, both foreign and domestic, to over £458m (€550m).

Furthermore, the economic impact of the clubs is uniform across the country, "with all nine major regions represented by at least one Premier League club in 2019-20, and 72% of the League's economic impact (£7.6bn, direct and indirect) occurring outside of London (ENG)", which was home to five of the 20 participating clubs in the English league (or 75%) during the season.
