Formula 1: Liberty Media (USA), "world's most valuable sports empire" ($17.2bn) according to Forbes

Liberty Media, an American communications, media and entertainment group and owner of Formula One Group since 2011, remains the "world's most valuable sports empire" in 2022, with a valuation of $17.2bn (€15.2bn), according to a ranking published by Forbes on 20/01/2022. Since 2007, Liberty Media has also owned the Atlanta Braves (MLB), winners of the North American baseball league in 2021.

This valuation of $17.2bn is up 32% from the beginning of 2021, "driven by big gains in revenue and operating income (in the sense of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for the Braves and Formula 1 over the past year."

In the ranking of "the world's most valuable sports empires", Liberty Media is ahead of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment ($10.5bn/€9.2bn), which owns five American franchises, as well as Arsenal FC (Premier League). Fenway Sports Group (Boston Red Sox, Liverpool FC, etc.) completes the podium, in third place ($9.81bn/€8.6bn).
