Beijing 2022: Airbnb (accommodation rentals) offers a $500 travel subsidy for each athlete

Airbnb, a Californian private accommodation rental platform, has activated its partnership with the IOC and the IPC and is relaunching its "Airbnb500" programme for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (to be held in China from 04 to 20/02/2022, and then from 04 to 13/03/2022), announced the American group on 24/01/2022.

As part of the operation, which was previously deployed for the Tokyo 2020 Games, Airbnb is offering a $500 (€440) travel subsidy to each Olympic or Paralympic athlete registered on the dedicated "Athlete365" platform. Nearly 2,900 athletes are expected in Beijing for the Olympics.

"In 2021, more than 7,000 athletes received the Airbnb500 grant following Tokyo 2020, booking stays in Sweden, Malta, Italy and beyond. While many athletes used the travel grant for relaxing and recovering, others used it for training," said Airbnb. The American group has been part of the IOC and IPC's "Top" partnership programme since 2020 as part of an agreement that runs until the Los Angeles 2028 Games (estimated total amount of $500m/€452m).
