WLF/FIFPro: professional leagues and players' unions to "cooperate to shape the future of football"

"The WLF and FIFPro recognise the need to act as partners and cooperate to shape the future of football," said the World Leagues Forum and the International Federation of Professional Footballers following a meeting held both face-to-face in Madrid (ESP) and by video conference on 01/02/2022.

After a first meeting on 04/10/2021, the representatives of both organisations "discussed how to set higher standards of governance in modern football." These standards aim to "put social partners, openness, accountability and sustainability at the heart of the sport."

The World Leagues Forum and FIFPro are responding to the crisis in football governance by working together through a series of summits. "The two organisations agreed on the benefits of labour and industrial dialogue to find the right balance between the interests of clubs and players. This will help to strengthen the game at all levels and safeguard the health and wellbeing of footballers," said the bodies.
