Piracy: European Leagues calls on the European Union for more effective protection measures

"The Association of European Professional Football Leagues (European Leagues) strongly regrets that the European Parliament plenary vote on the Digital Services Act (DSA) did not respond to the urgent request from live content producers and in particular sport events' organisers to address the issue of digital piracy," announced European Leagues, on 02/02/2022.

"The European Parliament position fails to deliver on the removal or disabling of access to illegal live content during a live broadcast. This issue plagues for the organisers of professional football competitions across Europe as we rely on the economic value of our live media rights," said the body.

MEPs adopted the draft Digital Services Act to better combat illegal content and ensure the accountability of platforms, on 20/01/2022, after plenary amendments introduced important changes to the text.
