"I'm sure that (the biennial World Cup) will not happen because it is completely nonsensical. A populist project that would destroy football. It goes against all the principles of our sport, the Olympics... It's not just bad for Europe. It's unbelievable that a football organisation (FIFA) can propose that players, who already have to bear too heavy a burden, play a month-long tournament every summer," said Aleksander Ceferin, president of UEFA, to the French weekly newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche on 06/02/2022.

"Can you imagine how it would cannibalise women's football? I'm not sure that (the advocates of the biennial World Cup project) understand, but I'm sure they hear the opposition from fans, from bodies, from governments, from the European Union..." added Aleksander Ceferin, who is also vice-president of FIFA.
