Euro 2028: England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales launch a joint bid

"Following an extensive feasibility study, which assessed the potential opportunities in international football, the football associations of England (The FA), Northern Ireland (IFA), Scotland (SFA), Wales (FAW) and the Republic of Ireland (FAI) have agreed to focus on a bid to host UEFA Euro 2028, the third largest sports event in the world," announced the five associations in a joint statement on 07/02/2022.

UEFA has given national member associations interested in hosting Euro 2028 until 23/03/2022 to express their interest in hosting the competition (see box below). The awarding of the host country/countries will take place in September 2023, according to the European body on 12/10/2021. UEFA did not mention FIFA's project for a biennial World Cup, according to which the first World Cup to be held in a leap year could be scheduled for 2028, two years after the 23^rd World Cup (USA, Canada, Mexico).
