Spain: RTVE acquires free-to-air broadcasting rights for the 2022 Champions League final

The public broadcasting group RTVE announced on 14/02/2022 that it will broadcast on its channel La1, the 2021-22 Champions League final played at the Gazprom Arena in St Petersburg (Russia) on Saturday 28/05/2022.

These free-to-air rights have been sublicensed from the Spanish telecommunications operator Telefónica, which holds the entire broadcasting rights in Spain, for its pay-TV subsidiary Movistar, to the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, over the 2021-2024 cycle, for €975m, i.e. €325m per season.

This is the first time since 2015 that RTVE will broadcast a Champions League final and the first time since 2018 that a free-to-air channel will broadcast the final in Spain.
