Germany: DFL president favours hosting Euro 2024 and 2024 Olympics

"German sport should do everything it can to get these two events [Euro 2024 and the 2024 Summer Olympic Games]," said Christian Seifert, the CEO of the DFL (German Football League), speaking to the news daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on 16/08/2014.

"Hosting Euro 2024 would be a good opportunity to make investments in stadiums that were used for the 2006 World Cup and will have by then been around for almost 20 years," said Seifert.

Germany may abandon its bid to host the semifinals and final of Euro 2020 at the Allianz Arena (capacity 67,812) in Munich in order to "better focus on a bid for Euro 2024," said Wolfgang Niersbach, president of the DFB (German Football Association), speaking to the German daily newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost on 02/07/2014.

The designation of the 13 host cities for Euro 2020 will be performed by the executive committee of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) in Geneva (SUI) on 19/09/2014. The host of the Euro 2024 is to be appointed by the European body in 2018.
