Social media: NBA, competition with the most followers ahead of Champions League and LaLiga (KPMG)

With 214.3 million cumulative followers on the main social networks (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and Weibo), the NBA is the most followed sports competition globally, according to data published by KPMG Football Benchmark, the business intelligence platform of the international network of audit and advisory firms, on 16/02/2022.

The North American league is closely followed by the UEFA Champions League, in second place, with 211.4 million followers. Far behind, LaLiga completes the podium with a total of 140.6 million followers.

Among the "Top 10 most marketable sport competitions on social media", five are football competitions, with the Premier League (4^th, 140 million followers), the FIFA World Cup (5^th, 97.5 million) and the UEFA Europa League (9^th, 36.8 million) in the top ten. The NFL (6^th), Formula One (7^th), One Championship (8^th, mixed martial arts) and the Indian Premier League (10^th, cricket) complete the ranking (see below).
