Italy/women's football: a new two-phase format with 10 clubs for the Serie A from 2022-23

A first phase with home and away matches between the 10 teams of the "Serie A Femminile TimVision" (18 matchdays), then a second phase with two mini-leagues: one between the top five competing for the title (and access to the Women's Champions League for the winners and runners-up) in a Scudetto group, the other between the bottom five fighting to avoid relegation. This is the new format of the Italian women's football championship applicable from the 2022-23 season and validated by the FIGC on 16/02/2022.

The 2022-23 season also marks the start of professionalisation for the Italian women's top flight, which at the same time moves from 12 to 10 teams and from 22 matches to 28 (with 26 matches for each team, as in each group of five, during the second phase, one club will be rested on each matchday).
