esports: Montpellier HSC launches new section with beGenius to take part in the LFP's eLigue 1

Montpellier Hérault Sport Club (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) has launched a new esports section in partnership with the Montpellier-based esports organisation beGenius, announced the club on 18/02/2022. MHSC Esport will take part in the eLigue 1, the LFP's esports competition (10 clubs involved in 2022) played on the FIFA video game (published by EA Sports).

"We have been in partnership with the MHSC since September 2019. We have achieved great performances for two years since we finished 3^rd in the eLigue 1 in 2020. This year, we are passing a milestone. There is a desire from the LFP to professionalise esports and make the discipline an attractive asset for clubs," said Geoffroy Lacour, CEO of beGenius, a company he founded in 2011.

"Groupe Nicollin (owner of the MHSC) is acquiring a 10% stake in the capital of beGenius. The group wishes to invest and sustainably support the development of esports.
