FIFA: Wolfgang Niersbach (GER) welcomes Michel Platini's decision not to run for presidency

Wolfgang Niersbach, the president of the DFB (German Football Association), on 28/082014 welcomed the decision of Michel Platini, president of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), not to run for the presidency of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) in 2015.

"Had he done otherwise, we would have seen a gruelling campaign lasting several months that would have caused a commotion in the world of football," said Wolfgang Niersbach, speaking to German media outlets on 28/08/2014, in Monaco, on the sidelines of the draw for the group stage of the 2014-15 Champions League.

"I have chosen to follow my heart. I have chosen football. I have chosen passion. This is not a choice made by default. For FIFA, this is not the time, it is not my time. Not yet," said Platini on 28/08/2014, in Monaco. Platini added that he will run for a third term as president of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations). This election will take place in Vienna (AUT) in late March 2015 at the UEFA congress.
