"Following the evolution of the situation between Russia and Ukraine in the last 24 hours, the UEFA president (Aleksander Ceferin) has decided to call an extraordinary meeting of the executive committee for Friday 25/02/2022 at 10:00 CET, in order to evaluate the situation and take all necessary decisions," announced the European body on 24/02/2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday 24/02/2022 (at 04:00 CET) the start of military attacks on Ukrainian territory. Explosions were then heard in several major cities, including the capital Kiev. Russian ground forces entered Ukraine, according to Ukrainian border guards.
