Russia-Ukraine conflict: FC Schalke 04 (GER) removes Gazprom (RUS, gas) logo from its shirts

"Following recent developments, FC Schalke 04 (2.Bundesliga) have decided to remove the logo of main (shirt) sponsor Gazprom (since 2012-13, €10m/year over 2021-2025) from the club's shirts," announced the German club on 24/02/2022.

"This step follows discussions with Gazprom Germania (the group's German subsidiary). Instead, 'Schalke 04' will be on the chest of the Royal Blues," said the club, which has been in partnership with the Russian company since the 2006-07 season.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday 24/02/2022 (at 04:00 CET) the start of military attacks on Ukrainian territory. Explosions were then heard in several major cities, including the capital Kiev. Russian ground forces have also entered Ukraine. Prior to this military offensive, FC Schalke 04 had announced that it was maintaining its sponsorship agreement with Gazprom, a company based in Saint Petersburg (RUS) and 50.2% owned by the Russian government.
