Ukraine conflict: 2022 Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sochi cancelled, Haas withdraws its Russian sponsor

"On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances," announced the world motor sport body on 25/02/2022. This decision follows the conflict triggered in Ukraine by Vladimir Putin's Russia on Thursday 24/02/2022.

The 2022 Russian Grand Prix was originally scheduled to take place at the Sochi Autodrome (RUS) from 23-25/09/2022. At the Formula 1 winter test in Barcelona (ESP), 2021 World Drivers' Champion Max Verstappen (NED) and four-time German World Champion Sebastian Vettel had already indicated that they would not be competing in Russia on 24/02/2022.

"The FIA Formula 1 World Championship visits countries all over the world with a positive vision to unite people, bringing nations together. We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation," said the FIA.
