War in Ukraine: Roman Abramovich (RUS) gives "stewardship and care of Chelsea FC" to the Foundation

"I am today giving trustees of Chelsea's charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC (Premier League). I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the club, players, staff, and fans," announced Roman Abramovich, owner of the London club, in a message published on the club's website on 26/02/2022.

The Russian oligarch made the announcement following the conflict in Ukraine that began on Thursday 24/02/2022 with Vladimir Putin's Russia, to whom he is known to be close. Several European media sources have reported that he is currently in Belarus to participate in negotiations between the two countries.

"During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities.
