Nigeria: FIFA refuses the election of the Federation president and sets an ultimatum of 01/09/2014

"We will not recognise the outcome of this election," said Jerome Valcke, secretary general of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) in a letter dated 29/08/2014 to the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) concerning the election of Christopher Giwa as president of the Federation on 26/08/2014.

Christopher Giwa, president of Giwa FC (Nigerian first division), was elected at the congress of the NFF. This election is contested by Federation members who are calling for a new vote in a congress they want to organise for 04/09/2014. Aminu Maigari, the former president of the NFF, was imprisoned by Nigerian authorities on the morning of the first vote and was released the next day, 27/08/2014.

"If persons who continue to claim to have been elected occupy the offices of the NFF at midnight on 01/09/2014, the case will be forwarded to the appropriate bodies of FIFA for sanctions, which could include a suspension of the NFF," said Jerome Valcke.
