War in Ukraine: adidas suspends partnership with the Football Union of Russia (FUR)

"adidas is suspending its partnership with the Russian Football Union (FUR) with immediate effect," according to a spokesperson for the German equipment manufacturer on 01/03/2022.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine led by President Vladimir Putin, which began on Thursday 24/02/2022, has led to the suspension of Russian teams (national teams and clubs) from all competitions until further notice, as announced by FIFA and UEFA on 28/02/2022.

UEFA has also terminated its partnership with the Russian company Gazprom (see below), as has FC Schalke 04 (2.Bundesliga). Manchester United FC (Premier League) also terminated its agreement with Aeroflot, a company 51% owned by the Russian state (total agreement of £40m/€48m over the 2018-2024 cycle), on 25/02/2022.

adidas posted €584m in turnover in Russia, Ukraine and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2020, or 2.9% of its total turnover (€19.8bn), according to the company's financial statements.
