Super League project: "European football is in desperate need of reform" (Andrea Agnelli)

"European football is in desperate need of reform. The Super League is a collective work of 12 teams, not one person. 12 clubs signed a 120-page contract and it is still binding for 11 of those clubs," said Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus FC (Serie A TIM), during the Financial Times' "Business of Football Summit" at The Biltmore Mayfair hotel in London (ENG) on 03/03/2022.

12 major European clubs (six English, three Spanish and three Italian, see list below) presented a European Super League project on 18/04/2021. Nine of them quickly backed out. The one no longer linked to the project is FC Inter Milan, who had a release clause linked to the agreement of the club's general assembly and/or its sponsors, according to Italian media.

The British press had reported that Andrea Agnelli would use the Business of Football Summit to present a new version of the Super League project. This was not the case, although he made it clear that he had not given up on the idea of creating a new European competition.
