War in Ukraine: the two Russian professional football leagues excluded from European Leagues

The board of directors of European Leagues has decided to exclude the Russian Premier League (RPL, ordinary member) and the Football National League of Russia (FNL, associate member) from the European Leagues' Association, "due to the current extraordinary and tragic circumstances," announced the body on 04/03/2022.

"The European Leagues share solidarity to all the people affected in Ukraine and hope that the situation in the country will return promptly to normality," added the Association, eight days after the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army that began on 24/02/2022.

At the level of European clubs, the ECA executive board, during a meeting in London (ENG), announced that all its Russian members would "cease to be involved in ECA activities with immediate effect until further notice," on 01/03/2022.
