Nice: Allianz Riviera only stadium rewarded at the 2014 International Architecture Awards

The Allianz Riviera (Nice, capacity 35,000) is among the 114 projects and constructions in the world that were awarded the 2014 International Architecture Awards 2014, the Allianz Riviera announced on 29/08/2014.

These rewards, created in 2005 by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design (Illinois, United States), the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and the Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd., are designed each year to acknowledge innovative architectural projects. The recipients of the 2014 International Architecture Awards will be presented at the Istanbul Biennial (Turkey), an exhibition of contemporary art from 01/11 to 14/12/2014.

The Allianz Riviera, inaugurated on 22/09/2013, was designed by the architecture agency Wilmotte & Associés SA. It is the only sports stadium rewarded this year.

  • The cost of the Allianz Riviera including tax and VAT reached €243m. The construction of the stadium began on 01/08/2011.
  • The stadium has an area of 54,000 m2 and is at the heart of a development area of 14 hectares.
