Premier League: broadcasting contract in Russia suspended and £1m to be donated to Ukraine

"The Premier League and its clubs today unanimously agreed to suspend our agreement with Russian broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport) with immediate effect and to donate £1m (€1.2m) to support the people of Ukraine. The League strongly condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine. We call for peace and our thoughts are with all those impacted. The £1m donation will be made to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to deliver humanitarian aid directly to those in need," announced the English league on 08/03/2022.

The English Football League (EFL) also announced that it has suspended the broadcast of its matches in Russia, via the iFollow streaming service as well as on club platforms, at the same time as the Premier League.

The Russian broadcasting rights to the Premier League are currently held by the Russian search engine Rambler Media (for its Okko streaming platform) for the 2019-2022 cycle, at an estimated cost of €7m per year. Rambler Media is owned by Russian bank Sberbank, which suffered sanctions in the UK and US after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
