197,779 girls or women registered with the FFF on 02/03/2022, including 163,717 female players (82.7%), were the figures published by the French Football Federation on the occasion of International Women's Day, 08/03/2022.

"After two years disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021-22 season marks a massive return to football for licensees, including women. Their number is flirting with the symbolic 200,000 mark, a threshold reached in April 2020 before naturally suffering the repercussions of the health situation," said the FFF.

"Thanks to the involvement of the 14,000 amateur clubs, leagues and districts, football has been able to restart in a safe environment. The girls and women have returned to the pitch," added the Federation, which states that 163,717 female players represents "an increase of 15.5% compared to the same period in 2021."
