England: financial health of clubs judged "excellent" by one out of three financial directors

One financial director of professional clubs out of three (33%) believes that the financial health of their club is excellent, stated the British accounting and consultancy audit firm BDO on 15/08/2014. 42% of financial directors think their club's situation could be better, and 25% that their financial health is the subject of special attention or raises serious concerns.

This is one of the key results of a study conducted by BDO with the financial directors of Premier League clubs, Football League clubs (2nd, 3rd and 4th Divisions English) and the Scottish Premiership (Scottish first division). The 2014 edition of the report is entitled "Focusing on the polarization of Football Finance and the impact of FFP."

A total of 67 financial directors in five different leagues took part in the telephone interview in May and June 2014, which was conducted by the independent polling institute BDO. They answered 48 questions, covering eight themes: the finances their club, sources of income and profitability of the club, expenses, financial fair play, payroll and player development…
