Sky Italia: a €1m fine for misleading information on the TV rights included in its football package

"The Competition and Market Authority has concluded an investigation against Sky Italia, imposing a fine of €1m on the company for the dissemination of misleading information on the allocation of football rights for Serie A TIM matches," announced the AGCM (Competition Authority in Italy), on 11/03/2022.

"The Authority found that Sky Italia, in violation of Article 21 of the Consumer Code, in the spring of 2021 represented a situation of uncertainty regarding the allocation of Serie A rights, suggesting that its subscribers could continue to enjoy content relating to the Serie A championship, as was the case in the previous season," continued the authority.

"In fact, following the conclusion of the tender for the assignment of exclusive television rights to seven Serie A games per matchday, Sky Italia was aware that it could not offer the Sky Calcio package in its previous format. Despite this, the company still provided its customers with information that did not allow them to understand the actual content of the offer relating to the Sky Calcio package for the 2021-22 season…
