The streaming platforms Discovery+ and HBO Max will be merged into a single platform, according to Gunnar Wiedenfels, CFO of the US media group Discovery, at the Deutsche Bank Media, Internet & Telecom Conference on 14/03/2022, as part of the planned creation of the future Warner Bros. Discovery.

The US telecommunications group AT&T and the US media group Discovery had announced "a definitive agreement to combine WarnerMedia's premium entertainment, sports and news assets with Discovery's leading nonfiction and international entertainment and sports businesses to create a premier, standalone global entertainment company," on 17/05/2021.

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022. Discovery's (Eurosport's parent company) shareholders approved the deal on 11/03/2022. The European Commission approved the transaction on 22/12/2021.

Discovery+ and HBO Max had 22 million and 78 million subscribers respectively on 31/12/2021.
