Germany: death of Egidius Braun, ex-president of the DFB (1992-2001) and ex-vice-president of UEFA

The German Football Association (DFB) and the "DFB Egidius Braun Foundation" are mourning the death of Egidius Braun, who passed away in his hometown of Aachen (North Rhine-Westphalia, GER) at the age of 97, announced the DFB on 16/03/2022.

"Braun (born on 27/02/1925) was DFB President from October 1992 to April 2001 and had previously been the association's treasurer since 1977. After his retirement from the presidency due to ill health, Braun was appointed honorary president of the DFB. In addition, the 'DFB Egidius Braun Foundation' was established in his honour in July 2001. Egidius Braun was chairman of the foundation's board until his death," said the German Federation.

"Today is a sad day for all footballers in Germany and Europe. With Egidius Braun, we are losing a special person who used the opportunities offered by football to help those in need of support and attention. He was particularly concerned about children and young people in need," said Bernd Neuendorf, the new president of the DFB.
