FIFA: number of players recruited on loan and number of players loaned out limited to 8

A club will not be able to recruit more than eight players on loan, nor will it be able to loan more than eight players from 01/07/2022, announced FIFA at the end of its Council meeting in Doha (QAT) on 30/03/2022, ahead of the 72^nd FIFA Congress scheduled for this Thursday 31/03/2022. This double limitation will be reduced to seven players on 01/07/2023, then to six on 01/07/2024 (see calendar below).

Club-trained players and those under the age of 21 are not covered by these "new regulations concerning the loan of players in international football", which also provide for a minimum duration for the loan (the months between two transfer periods) and a maximum duration (one year).

"These regulations, which are based on the recommendations of the FIFA Football Stakeholders Committee to facilitate the development of young players, promote competitive balance and prevent the hoarding of players by clubs," explained the international federation.
