OTT: "Sports will play an increasingly important role in this market" (Nicolas Rotkoff, MCS TV)

"The global OTT market was worth €23bn in 2021 and is expected to be worth €43bn by 2027. Sports will play an increasingly important role in this market. New players like DAZN are taking a bit of a beating (see related article) but I am confident in the future of this market. The digital transformation in sport should be comparable to that seen in music or cinema and TV series," said Nicolas Rotkoff, CEO of SMB Consulting and MCS TV, at the Sport & Media Observatory organised by Sporsora at the Sportem trade fair at Roland-Garros on 29/03/2022.

"A few figures to illustrate this point:
- By 2027, the pay-TV market in Europe should lose seven million subscribers, including one million in France.
- 60% of subscribers to streaming offers are under 35 years old.- Amazon's sports investments represented 1% of its content spending in 2019. This will rise to 14% by 2022.
- In 2021, OTT accounted for 10% of the sports rights market. This figure will rise to 20% in 2022," said Nicolas Rotkoff, who relied on various studies for these figures.
