Council of the European Union: discussion on the "promotion of European values through sport"

to discuss "promotion of European values through sport and the organisation of sport."

Roxana Maracineanu, French Minister for Sports, chaired the session, as France holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union from 01/01 to 30/06/2022.

The Ministers first listened to the speech - via videoconference - of Vadym Huttsait, Minister of Youth and Sports for Ukraine, who spoke of the deplorable situation for athletes and sport in his country following the Russian invasion on 24/02/2022.

"I had the honour to chair the Council of European Sports Ministers. Our commitments:
• Unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and assistance to displaced athletes and delegations,
• Defence of the solidarity-based, transparent and human rights-respecting sport model," wrote Roxana Maracineanu on Twitter on 04/04/2022.

The Sports Ministers adopted conclusions on the theme "Sport and physical activity, a promising lever to transform behaviour for sustainable development (document available to download).
