FIFA: Task force on 2018-2024 international match calendar holds first meeting

The first meeting of the task force appointed by FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) on the international match calendar from 2018 to 2024 was held at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich (SUI) on 08/09/2014.

At this meeting, the organisation of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was discussed. "The options of January/February 2022 and November/December 2022 were put forward as alternatives to June/July 2022, and initial feedback received," read the FIFA statement.

The meeting was opened by Joseph Blatter, FIFA president, and chaired by Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain), president of the AFC (Asian Confederation). Representatives of confederations, federations, leagues, clubs and members of FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers), the ECA (European Club Association) and the EPFL (association of European Professional Football Leagues) were present.

Qatar's Hassan Al Thawadi, CEO of the The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee (name of the Qatari World Cup organising committee), was also present at this first meeting.
