Ligue 1 TV rights: "Link with LFP broken since their agreement with Amazon" (Maxime Saada, Canal+)

"I am never confident about decisions that do not depend on us (ongoing disputes with the LFP concerning Ligue 1 TV rights). But yes, there is a probability that the Ligue 1 rights contract will be called into question. I have no relationship with the League since the agreement they signed with Amazon. The link is broken," said Maxime Saada, chairman of the board of directors at Canal+ group, to the French sports daily L'Equipe on 06/04/2022.

"The overall contract for Ligue 1, which runs until 2024, can be broken. There are a whole bunch of very problematic elements in the allocation conditions. When we launched our first legal proceedings to protect ourselves after Mediapro's failure, there was only a potential inequity. Since last June and the agreement with Amazon, the discrimination has been proven. An inequity with serious consequences for Canal+ from a competitive point of view," said the head of the French group.
