Financial sustainability: "New UEFA Regulations, an important milestone for European clubs" (ECA)

"ECA is pleased that these new Financial Sustainability Regulations have been formally approved (by the UEFA Executive Committee on 07/04/2022). They were developed through genuine collaboration and exhaustive consultation between ECA and UEFA, along with other stakeholders, which ensured that the whole spectrum of ECA members' individual views and circumstances were presented and discussed," announced the European Club Association on 07/04/2022.

This approval by the UEFA Executive Committee, which includes "ECA chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and honorary chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is an important milestone for the entire European club landscape. ECA welcomes the new regulations as a vital step towards addressing the most pressing financial challenges faced by European clubs of all sizes," explained the body.

The new UEFA regulations are based on three pillars - "solvency, stability and cost control" - and include a requirement that "restricts spending on player and coach wages, transfers, and agent fees to 70% of club revenues" which will be gradually implemented over three years…
