England: FA deems "embarassing" that there is only one black manager of a professional club

"I think for the game it’s embarrassing that we have only Chris Powell as the only black manager in the [first] four divisions (Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two, the English first, second, third and fourth divisions, all professional),” said Adrian Bevington, the FA's (Football Association) managing director, on 07/09/2014.

Chris Powell was appointed manager of Huddersfield Athletic, the Championship (English second division) club, on 04/09/2014. According to Adrian Bevington, the FA should work on generating more opportunities for ethnic minorities to integrate into professional clubs.

“As an industry you can’t have such a high percentage of black players and that’s without looking at other ethnic groups as well -- they need to be on boards, on senior management of organisations and they certainly need to be very visible within the coaching staff and the backroom staff of our national teams,” added Adrian Bevington to the British radio channel BBC Radio 5 live.
